Any test out there that can tell difference btwn Eng Bulldog & American Bulldog? I’ve only found “Bulldog”?
I purchased a registered English Bulldog puppy who no one (from myself to strangers) believes to be an English Bulldog. Even my vet doesn’t believe that he is. My vet and I both think he’s got some American Bulldog in him. The breeder had her dog artificially insemenated with her friends dogs “stuff”. Both dogs are registered, I saw them, and their pedigrees. I’ve bred Boxers for years and have knowledge of the many scams out there as well as how things work. I’m aware that although a dog is registered doesn’t necessarily mean he’s purebred. The only information regarding identification required to register a litter of puppies is the Dam and Sire’s reg numbers. It would not surprise me if someone in our puppy’s pedigree had some other breed of dog sneak up and have a little fun with their purebred dog. All they’d have to do is put any random registered male dog of the same breed on the paperwork and until someone realized their puppy didn’t look/act right and question it, no one would be the wiser.
I’m not sure if that’s what’s gone on here or if another dog came along and they didn’t know it. (My vet confirmed that if a female is still ready, a second male can still come along and mate with her and potentially cause a mixed litter.)
The breeder has also agreed to do whatever she needs to do to “make things right” should I determine that the puppy isn’t purebred. She’s also agreed to supply me with anything I may need in order to determine if my puppy is purebred or not. I’ve done lots of research and made many calls but it seems that they can only test for “Bulldog” and “French Bulldog”. I haven’t found a test that can determine English vs. American. Anyone have any advice out there?

English Bulldogs and American Bulldogs are completely different.
American:
Bulldog:=+Bulldog&btnG=Search+Images
French:
Btw, English Bulldogs arent really called English Bulldogs, they are just “Bulldog”, no English in there.
American Bulldogs are very big and tall, while Bulldogs are pretty short in comparison
Wouldn’t it be as simple as requesting a picture of both parent dogs?
American bull dogs and english bull dogs look nothing alike.
You use to breed dogs, went to purchases a high class breed and yet you didn’t know the difference?
Yeah get a picture of the parent dogs. How easy is that?
Then go to IMAGES.GOOGLE.COM and google American Bulldog and English Bulldog.
The differences are pretty obvious.
LOL @ this stupid girl giving us a thumbs down for pointing out the obvious.
Congrats on wasting probably $1600 on a mix breed and contributing to the over population of fake pure breds.
IDIOT.
You can get a DNA test done to prove that the sire wasn’t the sire that you were told it was. AKC does DNA on the males and the male should already have one on file, call AKC and ask about having the pup tested to prove if the correct sire did the donation. A American Bulldog is a lot taller then a English Bulldog, not the same breed at all. Look up american bulldogs and see a picture and you’ll see.
The reason you’re having such an issue is that there is no “English” Bulldog… there is simply the Bulldog. An American Bulldog is a different breed altogether.
If you want to determine whether the dog that was supposed to have sired your dog actually DID .. all you have to do is do the DNA on your dog, the dam and the sire – AKC will run the DNA for $40 each (takes 6-8 weeks). You can pay the AKC to read the results or you can easily read them yourself (instructions on reading them come with the results).
Edit: As far as DNA tests for breed ~ they are notoriously inaccurate. I know of a Champion Samoyed who was used as a test subject to check the reliability of the DNA test (the vet was deciding whether to carry the test) – the results came back “Siberian Husky/Sheltie Mix”.
If the dog was sold as a purebred and you want to find out if he was sired by a dog other than his father, you have to DNA him, his father and his mother….
Are you sure you purchased an English Bulldog and not an “Olde English Bulldogge”? They are very simliar but the Bulldogge has a more sporty body. **For the people who will cry about me using the word English with Bulldog..get over it…it helps to use this term when trying to talk about several types of bulldogs. Just cuz the AKC (AllKindsofCrap) calls it a bulldog, it doesn;t mean they everyone should use their terminology.** Theres so many variations of the bulldog breed…Victorian Bulldogs, Valley Bulldogs, Blue Blood Alap’aha Bulldogs…all very beautiful dogs! As the DNA tests are relatively new to identify the breeds, the majority of them are not very accurate. I would ask for some money back and love the pooch anyway!
Is your puppy registered with the AKC? If so, you may request that the parents be DNA tested. Contact the AKC’s Customer Service Department. Go to: for more info.
This is from the AKC’s website:
Customer-Driven DNA Complaint Policy
Effective July 1, 2002: Any AKC customer who questions the recorded parentage of a dog or litter may submit a complaint in writing to the AKC requesting DNA testing. The complaint must be accompanied by a deposit of $500.00. If the allegation is sustained the deposit is returned. If the allegation is not sustained, the deposit is forfeited and becomes the property of The American Kennel Club.
In cases where parentage is shown to be incorrect, AKC will work with customers to correct the registrations of dogs and litters when possible. The responsible parties will be billed for the DNA processing costs and registration correction fees. Registration services will be placed on hold until payment is made. When corrections cannot be made, the necessary registrations will be converted to Conditional Registration. The AKC disciplinary procedures will apply to exclusions discovered as a result of this policy.
