Has anyone tried Life’s Abundance? How is it compared to Wellness Simple Food Solution (Venison or Duck)?
Anu asked:
I have been giving my French Bulldog 4 month puppy Natural Balance Duck+Potato, but he has been licking/itching his paws. He has no fleas. I thought he might be allergic to potato, so I am gradually switching him to Wellness Simple Food Venison and Rice.

Has anyone tried Life’s Abundance? Or can anyone suggest any other food or any help?
Thanks

Well it might be that duck is very greasy and full of kinda fatty protein. Venison is very lean so gradually switch over, and you migh have to try a couple of different food varieties, and i hate to say it but they can be quit expensive at times. I can’t remember the exact name but it has Gold in the name and the bags are matallic, that is a good food.
I have used Life’s Abundance for my two dog’s and they love it. You feed less of it to your dogs. Most likely because of the ingredience. My husband tasted it and he said it taste good to him too.
You’ve asked a tough question because the foods you have mentioned are all good quality but they aren’t the best. Let me run through a few things that you should think about then I will give you my recommendations…
1. Life’s Abundance is a good food but does contain some fillers and/or ingredients to be concerned about. Foods should not contain salt, beet pulp, potatoe product (peelings and starch), egg product (egg shells). The overall amount of these ingredients isn’t that high and that is why I still think it is an okay food.
2. Wellness is a good food – better than Life’s Abundance.
3. You should never feed a food that doesn’t have meat as the first ingredient. I would recommend not feeding the Natural Balance.
4. I’m concerned about why you have chosen to feed venison? Dogs actually have a tougher time digesting red meat. The order of digestibility is eggs, chicken/turkey, lamb, fish, and then beef, venison and pork. Have you tried foods based solely on chicken or lamb? This should be done first or else your dog will not be receiving adequate high quality protein.
5. the Wellness formula does not contain meat as the first ingredient.
So, what is my recommendation?
Well, first I would suggesting switching companies. Natura is the maker of the healtiest pet foods in the world (Innova, Karma). Natura has a line of food similar but of a higher quality to Wellness – California Natural.
If you are certain that your dog has a food allergy, this line of food is perfect.
There are three formulas to choose from in this line – Chicken and Rice (best for high quality digestion), Lamb and Rice, Herring and Sweet Potatoe.
Each of these foods has meat as the first ingredient and unlike Life’s Abundance, they don’t contain other fillers and ingredients that your dog might be allergic to.
