Buy the Art of Raising a Puppy from amazon.com or something. It’s the best recommendation I can give you without writing the whole book out for you. The book is about $20 but it’s so worth it!!
Three things I recommend from personal experience:
1- Use a crate or kennel to train him, keeping him in his little “home” will make him not want to use it for a personal potty.
2-Try to avoid training pads. Some dogs will mistake comforters and blankets as their puppy pads. And having your dog *** on your bed is not fun!
3- Set up a very rigid schedule that you and your dog can follow. (Dogs thrive on schedules). This way you can anticipate when your puppy will have to use the restroom and eventually he’ll know when he gets to go!
With him being a puppy he can not hold it very long. If and when possible take him out every 1-3 hours. Get used to his pattern. Everytime he does use the bathroom, when he is finished ( you can praise during but not to loud or it will make him stop) praise him and give him a treat if you want (something small). Be patient puppies havn’t fully gotten used to the *i got to go* sensation. IF it has an accident, and you catch him in the act pick him up and take him outside. Then before you clean up the accident put his nose in it and say NO! and pop his but ( not to hard just enough to make him feel it and remember it) As he gets older he will be able to hold it longer. When in the house put a puppy pad down where he accidently goes Also it helps to create train them when you are gone instead of left in a huge bathroom. Good Luck!
I had trouble getting my pit to housebreak…so I began taking him outside HOURLY, on the hour…even if he didn’t get up and sniff, even if he was sleeping or whatever. I gave him lots of praise when he did go. He got the point pretty quick.
i was just comin o ere 2 ask eczactley the same thing exept i’m gettin a jack russell and i’m gettin him in 3 days, argghhhh can’t wait
this may not work for you but it worked for me now if you don’t want to go outside with them make sure you train them to stay in the yard i didn’t teach my dogs to do it someone else did but i did train them to go outside now what you gotta do is after he eats wait a couple minutes and take him out and if he doesn’t go then bring him in for a couple more minutes and take him back out till he gos eventually he will learn it only took my dogs 2 weeks and they learned umm i don’t know if he’ll do it but all my dogs did once they we starting to learn they have to go outside when they had to go they would sniff the the door so if he starts to od that then i would let him out
hope this helps sorry if it didn’t
have a nice day
bye
edit* AUTUM R i have all pits so that advice may help you
Puppies have small bladders. You need to be aware of when it eats and drinks and know it will need to “go” a while after that. The dog will give you signals you just need to figure out what they are. Alot of times they will be playing and then just wander off – that should make you suspicious. Also, they will continue to go in the same spot if you are not careful to eliminate any signs that they have had an accident there before. I like a product called “Simple Solution” you can get it at Pet Smart, etc. Dogs do not like to foul the area that they sleep in so, if the dog is in it’s crate when you can’t be fully attentive to it’s activities your floors should be safe. Take the puppy out as soon as it wakes up – morning, nap, whenever. Make a BIG deal when it DOES go outside. Give it lots of praise, a little extra playtime, a treat if you must. But make sure you do that every time the puppy gets it right. Soon he/she will associate pleasing you with doing it’s business outside. Dogs just want to please their owners so you have to be careful to send the right messages at the right time. Be consistent. Good Luck.
I was taught by a trainer some very easy tips to train dogs, especially frenchies. They are a little bit of a stubborn breed which makes them even more lovable! Crate training is the way to go, since normally dogs won’t go where they live…so to speak. A bathroom break every few hours is key in the first few months. Also, when taking the dog outside, everytime he goes pee, I say “Hurry Up” and give him a treat when he’s gone ***. When it’s time for #2, I say “GO Potty” and when he does, I give him a treat. My frenchie is now almost 2 years old, and I just say the commands when we are outside and he does his necessities. If your Frenchie does make a mistake in the house, immediately tell him “Outside” and take him outside, until he learns that “Outside” means..duh “Outside.” This has worked great for me, now only if I could get my Frenchie to stop hogging the recliner…Good Luck!
