I recently got two french bulldog puppies. What to expect in pigment changes on face/nose/cheeks?
Natalie asked:
They are both cream but one has pink cheeks and lips with a few dark freckles on her nose. And the other one has mostly brown on its nose and the outsides of its cheeks where his wiskers are. I noticed on most older pups this muzzle area fills in to be one solid color, so I was wondering if the one pups dark muzzle has just filled in sooner than the other and eventually their coloring will be the same? Do they sometimes stay splotchy? (they are both 8 weeks) Just curious! Thanks!

Their is no way of knowing exactly what you dogs will look like as they get older…
Dogs have many temperamental and appearance changes.
From what I know if the muzzle isn’t already dark it will never be.Also I hope you bought them as pets only since it appears from the breed standard they both may have coloring faults. Breed standard:http://www.akc.org/breeds/french_bulldog/index.cfm
Congrats on your new babies! Frenchies are wonderful companions. Creams can range in hue from rich to palest cream. This color is generally considered to be a dilution of fawn, minus the masking gene. Therefore, cream frenchies don’t have black masks. However, most cream frenchies do have a darker pigmentation on their muzzle and nose. Dark noses are preferred but lighter dogs may have lighter noses, which is acceptable within the AKC standard.
Some creams have more pigmentation and some have less. I wish I could see a photo to tell you for sure but most likely both of your babies will develop darker pigment on their muzzles and noses. One just may have a little more pigmentation than the other.
Enjoy your babies!
what you’re seeing is the skin pigment which won’t be as visible once the fur fills in fully. one may have darker pigment, or more solid pigment, than the other. but both a perfectly acceptable under our standard.
