My puppy has not pooped for almost 2 days?
Slim asked:
Hello,
Hello,
My recently puppy (French Bulldog) had dirreaha and had blood in it as well. I took him to the vet and they hydrated him more and gave me Amoxi and Amforal to give him and some and some bland wet dogfood. Now its been almost 2 days and he has yet to take a poop, yet he’s still hungery and drinks water. He also acts normal and plays, he doesn’t show a sign of sickness. I’m concerned since he’s eaten almost to cans of wet dog food and no poop….? I called the vet and she said to take him off the Amforal and wait. That was early this morning…
Should I wait till monday and take him in….?

yes wait. as long as your puppy doesn’t have any signs of pain or trouble of any kind (besides the part where he hasn’t pooped in 2 days). but still take your puppy to the vet on monday just is case
As long as no signs of pain, it is okay.
You can add Benefiber which is quite safe to his drink and it is soluble so it mixes in.
Or you can add Miralax which is most gastro docs use. Both are over the counter.
yeah i’d wait another day or two and see what happens it could be this new food he’s eating or the meds
well atleast until tomorrow anyhow.
If you pup was dehydrated then it will take a while fot the pup to poop!
He may have been completely empty too!
Yes! I would give it until tomorrow even……Has he pee’peed yet?I hope so!
He may be constipated now ,however don’t add anything to make him poo’to his diet Unless directed by your Vet esp if it isnt for animals!!
Blood in the stool is extremely serious even in humans. Did she give him an x-ray or mri (however they do it for dogs) to check his liver and kidney? What did she say was the reason for the blood and diarrhea. Being dehydrated shouldn’t cause blood in the stool. I’d also look those drugs up to see what the sides affects have been in other dogs who’ve taken them.
I’d give it another day and consider taking my dog to a different vet if this isn’t treated with urgency.
Keep in contact with your vet and keep a close eye on him I would think if he keeps eating and drinking and hopefully he is peeing I would say he should poop tomorrow there should be an after hours number you can call if your vet doesnt have one call one that does and give them the info and get some advice from a professional also keep an eye on how active he is being if he is being active even though he is sick. Poor puppy I hope he gets better soon.
for constipation in dogs, my vet recommended feeding them vasoline. Just a small amount. It sounds bad but it worked great! And the dog actually licked the vasoline up!
I might wait a day but not to long. If your dog cant poop sometimes its because his sacs need to be drained.
My dog goes through that a lot.
The vet should have explained to you when you can expect your dog to start going to the bathroom again. I had a similiar incident with my older dog and my vet explained that she probably wouldn’t poop for about two to three days after given the medication for the dirreaha. It sounds like the vet didn’t expain anything to you. As long as he’s not showing signs of distress, I’d wait. Also, when he does go to the bathroom it may not be much. He will get back on schedule soon.
