A lot of them have skin, hypoallergenic issues. Purina is a good food. See how she does on that.

I swear by Royal Canin. Its the best! I feed it to my Saint Bernard and Persian cats and they look wonderful. I get alot of compliments because of their coats and muscle tone. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it. Its by far the best food out there, well at least in my experience.

Purina ***** and so does Royal Canin. Innova and Orijen are great, though.

Here are some of the best dog foods:

Taste Of The Wild
-
Wellness
-
Solid Gold
-
Blue Buffalo
-
Nature’s Variety

Stay away from these brands:

Ol’ Roy
Beneful
Purina ONE
Purina Pro Plan
Pedigree
Purina Dog Chow
Alpo
Eukanuba
Nutro
Iams
Science Diet
Dad’s
Royal Canin
Store Brands
Kibbles ‘n Bits
Mighty Dog

If you are on a VERY super tight budget, these are good foods:

Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover’s Soul
-
NutriSource

***Vets will try to tell you to feed Purina, Iams, and Science Diet. But don’t feed them, they aren’t good for your dog. Vets tell you those lies because they are PAID to do so!!!! It’s sad, isn’t it?***

Here is a website that rates dog food. Go to it and enter the food of your choice. You will want a 4, 5, or 6 star rating. If the food of your choice has a 1, 2, or 3 rating that means it is crappy food. The higher rating the better, the lower rating the worse.

Also, another great thing to feed is the raw diet. Raw is completely safe and healthy. It’s what I feed to my dog. Here are two great links about raw feeding, the healthiest thing for your dog.

Well, good luck with your dog. I hope you find a healthy food that works good for him. Good luck!!! :)

Whatever you do, don’t feed Purina! It is a horrible food!

I suggest one of the foods on the 4, 5, or 6 star rated list on this site:

At the moment, I feed my dogs Canidae ALS. It is a pretty good food (rated 5 star) and is priced reasonably well (about $40 for a 35 lb bag where I get it).

Another option, instead of dry food, is to feed Raw Meat and Bones.

Feeding a dog a raw diet would be biologically appropriate for their species. Dogs, contrary for popular belief, are carnivores, and therefore need to eat meat to thrive (they can SURVIVE without meat, but would certainly not be thriving) and feeding raw meat would be absolutely wonderful.

Dogs immune systems are made different than ours; they can handle A LOT more than we would ever be able to. Plus, dogs digest their food much faster than us humans too (Their digestive systems are made to only digest meat, not plant matter) so bacteria really does not have that much time to settle in.

Here is a wonderful article about bacteria in raw meat:

If you are cosidering feeding raw as a complete diet there are many things you need to do first.

Before you even THINK of feeding raw, you need to do as much research possible on the subject as to not harm your dog be not feeding it properly, etc. This means reading books, articles, asking around, etc. It means A LOT of work. Feeding raw should not be taken lightly. Many things could go wrong.

Here is a site debunking many of the myths about raw as well as giving you helpful info on the subject:

More sites on raw feeding:

When done correctly, a raw diet can mean many great thngs for your dog. Just make sure you really look into the subject before jumping into raw feeding!

Hope I helped and good luck with your new puppy!

The others are right…Purina is NOT a good choice for any dog. Innova is a great food though, so are Wellness and Blue Buffalo. I have a 14 month old Dane and I’ve had really good luck with Eagle Pack Holistic Selects. My guy has a sensitive stomach and he’s done really well on this. Plus you can get it online from Petco with their bottomless bowl option! Sign up once, pick your food, tell them how often you want it….and it’s waiting at your door for you once a week (or however often you choose). Couldn’t be any easier, especially if you’re pressed for time like I am!

I feed my Frenchies Royal Canin medium puppy formula. They are thriving on it. It’s worth it to pay a little extra for food. It will save you on vet bills in the long run. The rule of thumb is not to feed your Frenchie anything you can find in grocery or department stores.

I agree with Mutt Misses Erin, stay away from Purina and other supermarket brands. Royal Canin can also be problematic for Frenchies, as it makes them very gassy. Canidae makes an excellent dry food that most dogs absolutely love. It does not cause gas and makes their coats super soft and shiny. Wellness also makes a great quality food, both wet and dry. For a special treat my Frenchie loves Tiki Dog; it is a human-grade quality dog food that, I’ll be honest, has made me hungry at times!

The most important thing is to look at the ingredients list. The first ingredient should be meat, not meal. Stay away from anything with wheat in it or with unnatural ingredients.

Lots of luck with your fuzzy bundle of joy!
