What is the best way to house train a puppy in an apartment? And what is the best “dog potty”?

I used paper. I wish you didn’t have to be away that long, but at least you are giving it a try. Just take him immediately outside when you get home and wait until he urinates or empties his bowel. Also, do this every single morning for the rest of your life with him. Seriously.Eventually he will get the idea. He is very young right now french bulldogs are very smart. Train him to use a leash and walk him a little bit since you live in an apartment.

Keep doing what you already are , it will take some time , but he’ll get it eventually.I would just layer the newspaper thicker , or get some of those things called “puppy pads” for house training.Good luck!

Some dogs can be litterbox trained, depending on their size. You can always try those puppy pads that they sell at the pet store too. I would reccommend taking him out regularly when you are there and putting him in a kennel when you are not. Take him out before you leave and right when you get home. He will get the point. Waiting 4-5 hours is not long at all for a dog. I wouldn’t continue the newspaper thing tho, that’s just asking for trouble. Your basically teaching him it’s ok to go to the bathroom in your house. Training on newspapers is good when you change to fresh newspapers you keep one of the soiled ones beneath it. Now your dog will smell where he went earlier, and hopefully repeat on the newspapers. Hopefully him pen is at least the size of an adults single bed in area. That way one end can be his toilet area and the other his living area. You could put a short wall (4-6 inches high) between the two areas with the toilet area completely papered.

I recommend that you take him for long walks every morning. These walks are good for two reasons. First they can establish a proper leader/follower relationship between you and your dog. Also your dog can toilet himself outside of your home. Remember when you walk your dog, don’t let him lead you. You are the leader and therefore must lead him. Keep his collar high up on his neck so you can easily control his head. Give him a few time outs to pee, poop, and smell.

I know it seems mean, but confining the dog to a crate, or space just big enough for them to lay down while you are away, and then releasing them straight outside when you let them out will help. Dogs won’t *** or **** where they sleep, so if they have to they will hold it. Then when you get home and they are sitting there with their paws crossed…you let them out, and praise the crap out of them for going outside…and it should happen…good luck…puppies are fun

What you ought to use instead of newspaper is an abstorbant potty pad. They sell them at your local pet supplier. Also take him outside every morning first thing when you get up, before you leave the house, and right before you go to bed. Make sure when you take him outside tell him to go potty. They will associate this word with the action. Your pup is still young, give him sometime to get used to habits, but build these habits while he is still young so it will stick in his mind this is what he is supposed to do.

the trick to paper training is to reduce the potty space weekly and sanitize the newly opened space! Keep your leash near the door mainly used to exercise your pet! do not call him out of the pen until you have had a chance to inspect your canine for messy incidents! Accidents happen! Carry a one of a kind treat to reward him when he completes the mission(#2)outdoors! Discourage sleeping on the bedclothes! Old dogs have accidents there on!

I have a toy poodle and I have something similar to a wizdog but it was much cheaper. it was called a yogi. exactly the same thing, but half the price. it works great. i would suggest getting two, though since french bulldogs get slightly bigger than toy poodles.

Litterbox training is much easier than outside training. every few hours take your puppy out of the crate and place it on the yogi and say, “go potty” if it goes off the device say nothing and put it back on until it goes.

I used Simple solution potty training spray (just one squirt) to attract the dog to the newspaper under the yogi.
